May 28, 2006
Free Summer Camp at Gandhi Nagar, East Tambaram, where handycrafts were taught to the students. We thank you for the support you have extended by donating 75 School Bags distributed to the poor children who participated in the camp.
The 15th August 2002 holds adequate proof that we have amidst us people who belong to the category who add life to years!
Bouquet, festoons, groceries like, rice, dhall, wheat, jaggery, oil, ragi, biscuits and entertainment, you name it. You had it. All the elements that go into Independence Day Celebration. What overpowered these “usual” features is of course the “unusual”namely, the venue of the celebration. Well, the setting was NIMMADHI - a centre for the senior ex-servicemen and widows of exservicemen who participated in freedom struggle and second world war. The ashram itself is eight years old and the credit for its establishment goes to Mrs. Bama Natarajan, Located in R A Puram the centre and its noble objective makes us christen the place “NIMMADHI”- War Widows Welfare Association.
Little wonder that this choice was made by Ms.Prema an employee of State Bank of India, who believes that “Charity should no doubt begin at home, but not stop there!”. Having founded a Trust appropriately christened “NESAM” she considered it ideal that Independence Day Celebration SHOULD dispel the gloom of darkness surrounding the senior inmates of War Widows Welfare Association.
With the active participation of Ms.Prema, Mr. Nagarajan, Chief Manager State Bank of India, West Mambalam Branch and other members of Nesam, friends and staff of various Branches of State Bank of India assembled at the ashram, the morning transformed into a delightful scene reflecting rays of hope and happiness, nimmadhi in the eyes of the senior citizens. As we witnessed this group of adults blend into the senior citizens' group as they sponsored the lunch, we could conclude that their combined goal seemed to be:
Let us reach into their souls where they now see only darkness
Let us light a torch and hold them near
Let us wipe away their tears
Let us help them overcome their fears
Let us create a memorable morning for them to remember!
NESAM's unique Independence Day Celebration only goes to prove that some people never grow old, they just move their beauty from their faces to their hearts. Thanks Prema for effectively conveying that as one moves up the chronological ladder, one needs to understand that “Happiness is inward, and not outward; and so, it does not depend on what we have, but on what we are!”
